It still may be November but with Christmas just five weeks away, it’s hard to not think about the new year that is on the horizon. For reasons big and small,
2015 is a big year for me.
Why?
In 2015 I turn 30.
In 2015 I need to look at or laugh off some of the things I wrote on my 30 for 30.
In 2015 I will start the year debt-free for the first time in my adult life.
In 2015 I finish a major job contract & will have to decide what’s next in my life.
As you can see, 2015 is such a big year that I’ve started planning early.

In September I already announced that I was aiming to fill my emergency fund to $10,000 by the end of August 2015. This date isn’t arbitrary, it coincides with the end of my big job contract and, perhaps, my first stint of unemployment in my adult life! Buuuuuut I didn’t announce the second part of that plan.
To keep myself accountable and moving forward, I’m setting a net worth goal of $25,000 by the end of 2015.
The easy part? I’m about halfway there. To continue to reach my goal I need to save about $1,000 a month from now until December 2015. But that shouldn’t be a problem right? I’m already saving over $1000 a month here…. right?.
Well not exactly.
Currently I’m socking away $1000 a month but about 15-20% of this money is short-term. I use these savings to travel or to buy expensive things like a new laptop or cellphone. This means that I’m really only saving about $800-850 a month, which meaaaaaans I’ll finish 2015 with a deficit of about $2000. Uck.
So how am I going to do this, you might ask?
Well, if there’s anything I learned when writing my post about saving yer tips, it’s that putting money aside ahead of time can really add up.
So follow along with my net worth goal of 2015, and don’t be surprised if more posts on the blog shift from personal finance-y to getting-my-grownup-shit-in-order-y!

But the first thing I’m going to do is clean house and quite literally see what I can sell that is right under my nose.
